dc.description.abstract | Experiments were carried out at Jordan University in a stone-fruit orchard which is highly infested with peach rootborer Capnodis tenebrionis during April 2006 to December 2008 to study the life cycle of C. tenebrionis under field conditions.
Eggs were found in clusters on the base of the trunk. Egg dimensions were 5.7±0.098 mm x 3.6±0.080 mm on average. Incubation period of the eggs was 19 days at a mean daily mean temperature of 28 °C. Eggs hatching was 9 days after oviposition at the same temperature. Neonate larvae started boring in the roots. Larvae completed their development passing 9 moults (9 instars) in 40 days (from June, 10 to July, 20). Pupation lasted for 3 weeks. Adults emerged and the sex ratio ranged from 1:1 to 3:1(♂:♀). Adults fed, dispersed at a temperature of 26-30 °C copulated at a mean daily temperature of 33 °C. Females laid eggs and the life cycle repeated. Results were discussed, conclusions and recommendation were made. | |
